Recognize World Alzheimer’s Month this September

September is World Alzheimer’s Month. 2019 marks the eighth year of the campaign, originally organized in 2012 by Alzheimer’s Disease International. The campaign was originally designed to raise awareness of dementia around the world and help combat the stigma still attached to the disease in its various forms in many areas.

Today, friends and loved ones of those who are coping with Alzheimer’s and other types of dementia use the month to hold fundraisers and benefits, recognize the work of those leading the way in the field of Alzheimer’s research, and thank caregivers for their service in help families liver better, fuller lives while dealing with dementia.

What Can You Do to Get Involved?

Wondering how you can help those who are dealing with dementia? There are lots of ways to get involved this September – and all year long:

  • Volunteer at a senior care facility
  • Donate to research charities
  • Participate in fundraisers
  • Help spread the word and reduce the stigma that dementia possesses

Remember to Recognize Those Already in the Fight

Whether you choose to join the cause for raising Alzheimer’s awareness this year or not, be sure to give thanks to someone who is already participating in it. From friends and loved ones of Alzheimer’s patients to the medical professionals and scientists who are leading the charge in finding a cure, the people who are on the front-lines of the battle against dementia often feel as if their work is thankless.

Recognize their work this September with thanks on behalf of your own friend or loved one who is struggling with Alzheimer’s or on behalf of those you don’t know. Sadly, statistics say that nearly everyone will come to know someone who will battle these conditions at some point in their life. With the work of those who are battling the conditions head-on, though, there is hope that these numbers will fade from existence one day in the future!
